Local
We started Burnt Honey by selling baked goods at the Island Roots Farmers Market, where we met so many hardworking farmers and other creative small business owners. Since then, we’ve made it our goal to support other small businesses on every step of our journey. We source as many of our ingredients from Vancouver Island as possible, while collaborating with as many local artisans and other small businesses as we’re able to. When you visit us, you are helping to create a ripple affect of love and support for other local businesses and our community as a whole.
Equal
If you’ve been to our store, you’ve probably seen the sign on our front door which makes it clear that you are warmly welcome in our shop, whatever your race, ethnicity, religion, country of origin, gender identity, sexual orientation or abilities. We’re proud to have carefully hired a team that shares these values. We understand that walking into a business is not a safe experience for everyone and we are committed to making sure that Burnt Honey is a safe and loving space where everyone can enjoy desserts and be respected.
Green
When you bake and serve as much dessert as we do, it’s easy to create a lot of waste. Before we opened, we committed to composting and recycling everything that we could. All of the products that we hand out to our customers are either compostable, recyclable or reusable. In shop, we compost and recycle whatever we can, even if it means washing out and bringing back our plastic piping bags to the Recycling Depot. We are proud to produce very little garbage as a shop, leaving as small of a carbon footprint as possible.
Body Positive
At Burnt Honey, we believe that all bodies are good bodies. We know that we are all so unique and we encourage loving yourself and feeling confident in your own skin, however that looks and feels for each individual. Burnt Honey is a body-positive space and we will never judge you for what you do or don’t decide to indulge in. You do you, boo!
